Sons of Ben rejoice! The MLS has tentatively set Feb. 28 as the date to announce that a new expansion team would be awarded to the city.
It was reported around last week that the league and the group leading the charge to get an expansion bid in Philly came to an agreement on the bid for the 16th expansion site.
The Philly bid has gone through a lot of ups and downs along the way, eventually beating out St. Louis. The St. Louis group had a deal back in September to build a stadium, but struggled to attract investors. Philly had the investors that the league wanted but lacked the funding until this past month.
Exciting news, though I still hope that St. Louis is not giving up to get on board as the 17th club in the MLS. More on this coming later…
