Woah, you read that correctly. But apparently, it was shot down by the Fire.
According to sources within MLS (and later confirmed by Ives), the Red Bulls have included midfielder Dane Richards in a pretty large offer to Chicago for Wilham Conde.
To me this sounds like the Fire aren’t willing to deal Conde at all. Richards would be a hell of an addition to the Fire’s midfield and would almost be a pretty fair trade in my mind with the inclusion of allocation money and draft picks.
This is pretty shocking news though since Richards was picked as one of the few guys that the Red Bulls wouldn’t trade not matter what. I guess Juan Carlos Osorio really does have some pull in the front office right now and believes that Conde is what they need to solidify their defense, which honestly, is the truth at this point.
Chicago is playing this very smart though. They are trying to get the highest offer that they possibly can for a defender. Its kind of laughable but its true, they are being smart about this. I am believing more and more now that Conde will be in a Fire uniform this season and won’t be traded at all. New York won’t throw Jozy Altidore in the mix so after Richards there really isn’t anyone else to trade except for maybe Claudio Reyna, which we know won’t happen.
Maybe they could still trade him to a western conference club but that would be more of a headache and I am sure none of the western owners want that right now.
