Thoughts on US Roster for Mexico Game

Posted by: WVHooligan In: FIFA| MLS| US National Team

Usually I forget to post US National team rosters when I see them sent to me, mainly because I have trouble remembering all the friendlies and such but I always make a point to watch US-Mexico and so I feel it is a good time to talk about the roster that was released late last week and give you all my thoughts on the big game for this week.

G:
Brad Guzan (Chivas USA)
Tim Howard (Everton FC)
D:
Carlos Bocanegra (Fulham FC)
Ramiro Corrales (SK Brann)
Drew Moor (FC Dallas)
Oguchi Onyewu (Standard de Liege)
Michael Parkhurst (New England Revolution)
Heath Pearce (Hansa Rostock)
Eddie Robinson (Houston Dynamo)
M:
Freddy Adu (SL Benfica)
Michael Bradley (SC Heerenveen)
Ricardo Clark (Houston Dynamo)
Bobby Convey (Reading FC)
Brad Davis (Houston Dynamo)
Maurice Edu (Toronto FC)
Benny Feilhaber (Derby County)
Stuart Holden (Houston Dynamo)
Eddie Lewis (Derby County)
F:
Jozy Altidore (New York Red Bulls)
Clint Dempsey (Fulham FC)
Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy)
Pat Noonan (Aalesund FK)

I have to say, I like this roster, a good mix by Bradley as usual. Looks like we will probably play one up top with Altidore and then have five in the middle with Donovan and Convey on the wings with Dempsey in the middle as an attacking mid. I then see Bradley and Edu as a holding/defensive mid to go along with a backline of Pearce and Moor on the wings and Onyewu and Bocanegra. The toss up in the back for the keeper but more than likely Howard will get nod.

Honestly, I think it will be a close match as usual but I kind of think it will be a draw more than anything. It will be another pro-Mexican crowd in Houston on Wednesday night and you have to think this Mexican team has had enough of the US beating them.

But I don’t see them winning just yet, that will come in qualifing down in Mexico City like it always does.

Feel free to post you roster predictions for Wednesday night on here and how you think the game will go.

I’m gonna go with a 2-1 U.S. win, and I read that the crowd might be more neutral this time. U.S. fans from all over have been buying tickets like crazy, and a lot of supporters are flying in.

Unfortunately BB took too many young, non-playing and out of form players for this one….3-1 mexico

Keep your eyes on Giovanni Dos Santos.
He’s barely 20 yrs. old and sharing time
with Ronaldhino and Messi. He’ll give
Mexico the finishing ability they lacked
before – but not enough for the outright
win. Draw 1-1.

  • soccer goals: Great article. He does need to improve his form.
  • soccer goals: De Guzman is a great player. TFC would bolster their chances with his acquisition.
  • soccer goals: Crew/United will be a good game.
