After a little seriousness this morning, I will switch back into rumor talk and give you all a little bit of what I am looking at today. So far this week its been fairly light and slow on the news front in the MLS. Maybe it has something to do with what was discussed earlier and maybe it is due to there really not being a lot of information out there to report and talk about at this time.
Anyways, there are a couple things to keep an eye out for today (or this week rather).
From what Steve Goff says, DC may not be in the running for Argentine playmaker Marcelo Gallardo. That of course if they do keep Christian Gomez on their roster. Only Colorado at this point as made any interest in Gomez so until anything happens there don’t expect Gallardo to be in a Black-and-Red uniform anytime soon.
However, some media think New York will be his home. While people down here in Dallas wouldn’t mind to see him come here and play now that the Hoops have no Carlos Ruiz. Just food for thought, I think Buzz hit it on the head that it wouldn’t be a terrible idea for Dallas to put their name in the hat for his bidding.
If DC were to add him, I’d imagine he’d get near or maybe even DP type of money. He could be worth it. Add him into the mix with all the other signings and you’d have to think DC will be in decent position early on for not only the MLS slate but for those international dates that they have this year.
Yesterday it was reported that DC added Franco Niell on loan from Argentinos Juniors. Probably expect an announcement today or tomorrow.
According to Goff, two more players are likely to join, Colombian defender Gonzalo Martinez and Peruvian goalkeeper Jose Carvallo. Interesting note about Carvallo, he holds a green card which makes him super attractive for any clubs. I think it is his mother who is from Virginia, so the move makes total sense in that regard.
DC is totally banking on this new international player rule that the MLS is going to. I think this all tallies up to maybe three or four players, though Carvallo will probably not count against that international total with his green card.
Many of you probably read or heard that Andy Herron was traded back to the Fire yesterday from Columbus. Thing about it was his “rights” were traded, meaning Chicago may not be able to keep him if he does indeed stay at Puntarenas. My bet is he is out of the MLS and on to maybe in his mind better things. Either way he is gone from the Crew and honestly, that is a great thing for Columbus, even with their lack of striker depth.
To those you pointed it out to me, thank you. Once I hear if he stays with the Fire or leaves for good I will pass it along to you all.
Speaking of the Crew, they are chasing a “Romanian midfielder” as Sigi put it last week at the MLS draft. And from the reports I’ve seen, he is not a big name player or is he is a player in the Romanian leagues. And the best part of it the Crew fans will probably have to wait until summer for this player to come over.
Wow, that just sucks if you ask me. If the Crew can’t land a decent player in the next week I could understand if Schelotto does leave this year.
Best quote of the day yesterday has to go to Luis Arroyave of the Chicago Tribune on his Red Card blog:
“I don’t really watch Fan Zone on Fox Soccer Channel. If I wanted to hear a biased announcer, I’d watch the New England Revolution telecasts.”
Gosh, I hate to say it but damn that is true.
Again, like I said it is a slow news day but once things pick up I will pass them along to you all. Also, once I get more details on the Supplemental draft that is tomorrow I will let you in on it. Knowing the MLS we won’t know anything about it until tomorrow or right after it though. I have seen the order thanks to Buzz at 3rddegree.net, but I don’t know the details of the time of the draft yet.
