The Houston Chronicle is reporting that forward Joseph Ngwenya has signed with Austrian club SK Austria. We talked about this possible move a few weeks ago, one that I kind of laughed at the idea of him going to. I didn’t think at the time that it was a smart move on his part to go to a club near relagation in the Austrian league but sometimes money times.
Ngwenya scored seven goals and added three assists for the Dynamo. He came to the Orange last year through a trade with Columbus, a trade that many consider the best deal of the 2007 season.
Houston is growing ever so thin at the striker position. Ngwenya leaving with the possible departure of Nate Jaqua to Europe and the addition of Brian Ching getting old leaves many in Houston to wonder if the two-time champs will go after a big time goal scorer this winter.
Last year the Dynamo turned down money from their parent company AEG for a designated player, it looks like they shouldn’t do that this year with the way things are looking in Houston.
Defense wins championships in most leagues but you have to have some offense to help carry the load and right now I don’t think Houston has the offense to win another title.
