Ian Joy to Join RSL

Real Salt Lake is trying to build their defense up before Friday’s SuperDraft. According to this article on MLSnet (near the bottom) RSL is about to sign Ian Joy(left) from FC St. Pauli of the 2. Bundesliga.

Kinda a random piece of information in that article to throw out there for the readers. Joy is American born so there would be no roster implications for RSL for him to join. He would add some stablity to their back-line, which is still one of the worst in the league.

Joy, 26, is still realtively young and should be able to start right away at left-back for RSL this season. This won’t be Joy’s first stop in the MLS, back in 2003 he had a brief, real brief stint with the Columbus Crew.

I love your site, but his info has been public for about a month.
It might not hurt you to look beyond MLSnet.com for news.
I had heard a while back about this move but never thought to actually write it up until now…but thanks for the link I will check them out a little more for RSL news since they seem to know what is going on there in SLC.

Why would a player come to MLS from the 2div of germany? Either they didn't want him or he wasn't getting playing time I assume, this is a huge step down.

He was a very important player to us. We are not happy to see him leave. "Private reasosn" is what St. Pauli's homepage says.

Just to let you know as a St Pauli Fan in Germany we are sorry to see him leave, he has been fantastic for this club the last few seasons, he plays regularly and we have not brought in a replacement yet! Anyway I think you will like him, he normally gets a yellow card in the first few minutes of each game 😉
