It looks as though Alecko Eskandarian will not be going overseas anytime this winter like previously though. Real Salt Lake is preparing to ship him to western rival Chivas USA exchange for a “major allocation” of $125,000 in salary cap space.
Esky became increasingly expendable to RSL as they renovated their roster by acquiring young strikers Robbie Findley, Fabian Espindola and Yura Movsisyan. It also didn’t help his cause since he was making $175,500 last season. That is a serious amount of cash for RSL to go and use on another foreign player.
Esky had been on trial with Standard Liege in Belgium last month after his contract expired, but wound up signing a new deal with the league.
Both sides are waiting on league approval to announce the deal.
Sad to see Esky get bounced around again but when you are that expendable anything can happen to you. I was hoping for a move overseas for him this off-season but I know he loves playing in the MLS. Another stop on the Esky Tour now looks to be in LA. Chivas does need some players after dumping it’s roster and adding Esky could be some good depth to have behind Razov and Galindo.
