Schelotto To Stay…For Now At Least
Good news for Columbus Crew fans, their star midfielder Guillermo Barros Schelotto isn’t going to leave just yet for his hometown club in Argentina Gimnasia de La Plata. Crew coach Sigi Schmid said that Schelotto has maintained his desire to return to the Crew.
This all according to Ives. Schmid went on to say the following regarding Schelotto:
“He’s under contract with us and we just sent him his P-1 visa so as far as we’re concerned he is coming back.
“I know there’s some pressure from his home club for him to go back and play there but he hasn’t expressed to us that it is what he wants to do.”
Schmid did go on to say that he believes that Schelotto does have the right to leave on his own terms even after one season and honestly, I couldn’t agree more with him. Even though I’d hate to see a quality player leave after one season, I still believe he will suit it up this season, even if it is only until June, with the Crew.
From what I’ve heard in Columbus all winter (and fall) he would be leaving no matter what due to being homesick, but he isn’t the type to bail out before a contract.
More on this to come…
