Move over Arsenal, Celtic is in the house to make a move for American and Chivas USA keeper Brad Guzan.
According to sources, Celtic is still hot on the trail of Guzan, who the club can groom to be the next starter once their current starter Artur Boruc leaves. Italian powerhouse AC Milan has been courting Boruc and is expected to make a play for the Polish goalkeeper this summer.
Smart move for the Hoops if you ask me. Get a great prospet this winter in Guzan and groom him for next year while you ride a solid starter lik Boruc through the rest of the season and Champions League and then sell him next summer.
Celtic is in the middle of not only a Scottish league race with Rangers but the Champions League, so handing over the keys to the club with Guzan isn’t a wise move if they were to let Boruc go right now. Training him and get him use to the European style of play and then hand over the keys in the summer once he is ready. I think it is a smart move.
Question is how much they will offer for Guzan if they end up doing so. You got to believe the MLS and his agents will be wanting top dollar. If Clint Dempsey gets a couple million, you better believe the league will want even more for one of their best keepers. It only makes sense to get as much for him now, while he is still young.
Tough blow for Chivas is this does happen though. They already traded away Guzan’s backup to San Jose this off-season. I guess they will be using that one draft pick on a keeper unless they try and sign a free agent or something this off-season. They do have plenty of cash on hand to make a play for a decent replacement though I think.
