US WC Qualifying Schedule Taking Shape

We know the Americans will play their opening qualifying series for the 2010 World Cup in June against Barbados or Dominica. Let’s reach out there on that limb and say the US do advance, I know, a real stretch here.

Next up is a four-team, semifinal-round group between August and November with the top two nations advancing to the CONCACAF final round. We do know a little more, unofficially, thanks to a FIFA draw over the weekend in Tokyo.

So if the US does indeed advance here is how thing should look:

@ Guatemala on August 20
@ Cuba on Sept. 6
Home vs. T&T on Sept. 10
Home vs. Guatemala on Oct. 11
Home vs. Cuba on Oct. 15
@ T&T on Nov. 19

All the dates are approximate, though they could be a day or two earlier or later. The first two opponents and sites are certain, which should mean the third game is also a lock. The other three games are a total guess at this point and will probably be a bit off. More than likely the dates will be right but the team on that date above will not be. We will know more once FIFA passes down the info.

UPDATE: Just got an email about this and below are the correct dates:

@Guatemala on or about August 20
@ Cuba on Sept. 6
Home vs. T&T on Sept. 10
Home vs. Cuba on Oct. 11
@ T&T on Oct. 15
Home vs. Guatemala on Nov. 19
