After the “mega-deal” between DC-LA-Dallas fell through the other day due to United backing out of a potential deal between the clubs. But now some rumblings around Dallas today say that Ruiz is still going to be on his way out.
Mostly Spanish media believe that Ruiz is practically in Dallas and is going to be back in a LA uniform for next season. Though this article may be a dated by a day or two and is from Ruiz’s home country, it still begs the question since in the article Ruiz says he is going back to LA.
If so, is the league okay with Ruiz, Donovan and Beckham on the same roster? Or will he go elsewhere? Or will Donovan actually have to leave this time around?
Some people have mentioned New York and Chivas as possible destinations for Ruiz. I’ve mentioned before that Donovan should end up in either San Jose or Chivas to make this kind of a deal work and seem fair to the rest of the league. Though most will argue that Donovan doesn’t want to be back in San Jose and probably true that San Jose doesn’t want him back. Chivas seems to be the right choice to make it fair though since they play in LA.
I really don’t see a move to New York working for Ruiz or even Donovan for that matter and I really doubt they will fit into this equation.
I said a week or so ago after Dallas picked up his option that he would more than likely be traded this off-season. Its a matter of time and still almost a matter of where.
But the biggest question in all of this is what is Dallas getting in return for this deal? Certainly its not Donovan, who technically should have been in a Dallas uniform the second time he came to the MLS from Germany, the league bent over for him then and I think it is time they start doing that now. I am not calling for Donovan in a Dallas kit if this trade does down but I am calling for some justifiable exchange in return from LA. And quite frankly, unless another club is involved there won’t be.
This deal is far from over, and I will monitor it as closely as I can.
