		<description>They should be grandfathered for the duration of their contracts.  The league agreed to Landon Donovan&#039;s contract and his no-trade clause before the institution of the DP rule.  I&#039;m  more an MLS fan than any particular team&#039;s fan, but it was the league&#039;s self-interest that prompted them to let Donovan come home and basically pick his home team. 

This rule should not be retroactive, but to be fair, their entire contracts should count to the cap.</description>

		<description>Not a LA fan (actually a Dallas fan hoping to rid Ruiz)...
but no...those players should have been grandfathered in for the length of their contracts.  They were players signed completely by the league before the advent of DPs and the teams paying portions.</description>
