Time To Give Seattle A Name

We know now that they are a club and that the league officially welcomed them into the family today. But what are we gonna call this club? The owners talked about a name that would speak of the culture that is in Seattle, something that would internationally recognized.

So what will it be? Fans are asked to submit names to the club via their website: MLSinSeattle.com

My suggestion go as followed:

  1. Emerald City
  2. Seattle Sounders
  3. Seattle 1974 (74 was the year the Sounders were founded in the old NASL)
  4. Athletico Seattle
  5. Seattle FC

Those are some of my suggestions…what’s yours?

Oh, come on. Just go whole hog–you know that you (and the nefarious nabobs at MLS HQ) want to. May I present…

FC Emerald City Sounders Albion 1974

Ahhhh, I love the smell of Eurosnobbery in the morning.

Joking aside, I'll go for Seattle Sounders '74. Nice alliteration and it plays the history card–a reasonable move for a young league looking to build some tradition.

i kind of dig "emerald city". emerald city
sounders.

what about "the roasters"? as in coffee bean
roasting?

1. emerald city
2. e.c. sounders
3. the roasters
4. seattle fc (really, this is the best bet with
emerald city or roasters or sounders being the
nickname)

Okay, look at this from a money standpoint. For an expansion team to be successful, you have to have a look that is going to get fans in the door for starters. You have the Space Needle in Seattle. Something like

The Seattle Comets

A fiery soccer ball with a tail like a comet shooting past the Space Needle is something that might have a good kick to it and give the team the future it much needs.
