Western Conference Final Preview

Honestly, I can’t say I am all that excited for this match tonight with Houston and Kanas City. The Wizards proved once again how messed up the MLS playoff system is by backing into the playoffs and getting past their first round opponent in Chivas USA while Houston took care of Dallas in good fashion.

With New England already in the MLS Cup, does the league want a repeat of last year’s Cup with Houston or have a matchup with two eastern teams, one that should be there and one that really should not based on their season performance. I don’t think the league wants another champion like they got two years ago with the LA Galaxy but I suppose a rematch isn’t too shabby either if Houston wins.

Usually in a conference final you know the other club pretty well but in this case Houston and KC have only met twice this season. The familiarity isn’t quite there like it was with New England and Chicago. KC has only beat the Dynamo once in league play over the last two seasons and Houston has won the other two matches. The one played this season in Houston was a 1-1 draw.

Houston has been one of the more consistent teams this season while KC has not. I like Houston at home because of their tough defense. I would expect some goals in this one but I think Houston has played well enough on offense lately to be able to score against on of the worst defenses in the league that the Wizards have.

Ball control will be a big thing and if the Wizards can get the edge they will have a chance. But Houston again has teh better defense and I cannot go away from that. I think Brian Ching puts his mark on this game as well.
I like my pre-season prediction of Houston going back to the MLS Cup. They should win this game and I think they could win this one pretty easily.

WVH Prediction: Houston 2, Kansas City 0

KC may have had a crappy season in comparison to Houston, New England and Chivas but still they got into the playoffs by what the MLS has setup.
I don't think their season performance matters at all at this point, if you make the playoffs, you make the playoffs. simple as that and if they are playing better than the rest of the teams (I know they're not!) then so be it. Chivas couldn't get it done and we'll see if Houston can. BTW, I'm not a KC fan, I'm a Galaxy fan and this would have been saids about them if they would have made the playoffs.
