Wizards On The Move In 2008

Rumor has it that the Kansas City Wizards are on the move for the 2008 season. They will no longer be playing in Arrowhead Stadium and will be moving to a baseball stadium in the Kansas City area until their soccer stadium situation can be situated.

It looks as though they will be moving to the CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City. The CA Ballpark is home to a minor league baseball team, so just when we thought the MLS was done sharing a field with a baseball team the Wizards go and move to a baseball park.

The Ballpark holds just below 6,000 and has a stadium record of 10,345; so it will be perfect for the Wizards who have trouble drawing over 10,000.

The move will be temporary of course, the Wizards are hoping it will just be a two year thing until a soccer stadium is ready. The current target date is for the Wizards to open a new soccer stadium in 2009.

This move sounds a lot like what FC Dallas did a few years back when they moved into a high school football stadium for a little while. This may actually be a good thing for the Wizards though. Getting out of Arrowhead stadium should be a good thing even though this is a slight step backward. Plus with the stadium that the expansion San Jose Earthquakes are playing in this coming season, really small stadiums will be the thing I suppose for some clubs in 2008 (and 2009).

As mentioned before the Wizards are hoping to move after two seasons into a new stadium…the only photo of a possible stadium I could find was this one below. Not bad, if I were a Wizards fan I would gladly take this temporary move to get this stadium.
