Second leg in the home-and-home series start tonight in the MLS playoffs as the Chicago Fire travel to DC to take on the United. Chicago got the early series advantage against United thanks to a Chris Rolfe goal in the first game last week in Chicago.

It may have been a more defensive effort on United’s part in last weeks game, they were dealing with plenty of issues on injuries up top to Luciano Emilio and Jamie Moreno. Both were expect to not play in last weeks game if DC could hold Chicago’s offense to no goals. Rolfe’s early goal changed DC manager Tom Soehn’s plan as both strikers entered the game in the second half and saw very little positive action.

I would expect tonight to be different. DC is on their home solid, where they hope to be for the next two games after tonight. Usually the first legs in a home-and-home are defensive on the away side, and the second is more of a all out attack to finish off the other club. Tonight, like I said should be different than last Thursday night in that DC will more than likely be on the attack more while Chicago will hope to hold United to the same as last week, nothing.

Chicago has been nothing short of solid as of late. Not giving up a goal (dating back to the regular season) in over 330 minutes of play. Not a bad time to go on a defensive run really. But this season, United lost just twice in home games at RFK Stadium, while the Fire scored 15 goals on the road, the fewest of the eight playoff teams. Simply put the Fire need to show they can score to win this series.

DC still needs to manage to get over the hump in the post-season against the Fire. No goals have been scored on the Fire in their playoff history against one another. I think that will change tonight as DC should finally get on the board in this one. DC is too good of a home side to bet against them in this one I think, however, I do believe we will see 30 minutes of extra time in this one.

WVH Prediction: DC 1, Chicago 0

Series Winner: DC in extra time gets a goal and wins 2-1
