MLS Commissioner Don Garber and league president Mark Abbott will be in Portland today to revisit PGE Park. They will see PGE in “soccer mode” for the game tonight between the US Women and Mexico.
Garber first looked at PGE Park in March but at the time, it was not setup for a soccer experience. There will also be talks with Portland Timbers owner Merritt Paulson about the requirements needed to make PGE MLS ready. Reports last week stated that Paulson is looking to expand the stadium for around $20 million to get it ready for a MLS club.
Interesting note about the article, Garber and Abbott will not visit Seattle in their trip to the west coast. Some may read into that more than others but this is a good sign for Portland that the league’s main duo are heavily looking into putting a club in Portland.
