Season Maybe Over For Clark

Season Maybe Over For Clark

Whatever you say about it, there is no excuse for it. What Ricardo Clark did in yesterday’s game between Houston and Dallas was stupid and in a way upsetting. It is real easy to say that a suspension is on the horizon for him too after watching the replay of that violent conduct several times.

I wasn’t able to watch the game itself but I did notice right away after it was over that Carlos Ruiz and Clark got into some sort of tangle at the end that cause red cards for both players. Interestingly enough once the game highlights were online, it was easy to see why there was cards issued that late in the game.

I am still wondering where Ruiz’s card came from, game recaps say he kneed Clark in the back after the play but replays must have cut that out. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Ruiz do something like that but I never really expect that sort of conduct out of Clark. A full intent kick to the shoulder/face of Ruiz. It looked like something out of a European second division really. Probably one of the ugliest fouls I have seen in the short history of the MLS (and the league has seen its share of ugly plays before).

Now comes the questions, does Ruiz get any more games than probably two for his actions in this? How many will Clark get? If we recall a recent suspension for a violent conduct this season back in the early stages between New England and Columbus when Andy Herron got away (during the game at least) with a nasty elbow to the face of Jay Heaps, he got six games. Fast forward to today and it wouldn’t surprise me if Clark will sit out the rest of this season, the post season and maybe a game or two into next season.

Sure that sounds like a lot of games but the Dynamo only have three games left on their season, add in probably three more in the post season, and two at the start of next season and that is really only eight games. And that number to me seems low. And even if they make it to the MLS Cup that is only nine games (that is unless I am wrong about the playoff format, which could be the case and it could be ten games).

What are your feelings about that boot to the face of Ruiz? And how many games do you see Clark getting for this?

Having seen the replay and read other posts about this, it seems that Ruiz did something to provoke Clark when going for the ball. It looks like Clark goes to ground while jumping with Ruiz. Video evidence will not be enough here. MLS should take the proper time to interview the two players, referee and linesman and other players close to the play. Clark should suffer a harsh penalty but Ruiz should not get away scot free if he did something nasty too.

definitely agree that Ruiz won't get away with this…more than likely though he will sit the two games that he will be suspended for with the red card and probably a decent fine…

Ruiz deserved what he got, the punk. What you don't mention is how Ruiz gave Clark the business on that play before taking him down and then falling over him despite nobody touching him! When Clark got up, he was justifiably pissed. Then that flopping candystriper Ruiz, who clutched his face despite being kicked in the shoulder (!), kneed Clark in the back for a straight red of his own. Ruiz had already gotten a yellow earlier in the game and will miss the next two, one for yellow accumulation and another for the red. Personally, if he was going to do it I wish Rico had kicked him harder. Your fast-falling candystripers are in serious trouble now, after spending your DP on that wastrel Denilson, who wasn't even the best Brazilian on the field yesterday, and Ruiz being out for two games. You guys may not get any more points in the regular season. Dynamo are so deep they can survive the temporary absence of Clark, but that's not the case with Ruiz in Frisco now is it?
