A late season mid-week game this week between two teams in two totally different places in the MLS standings.
Real Salt Lake – at – DC United
The league’s hottest team looks to inch closer to the MLS Cup Playoffs as Unied host Real Salt Lake tonight in the nation’s capitol. DC has won seven of the last eight and are unbeaten in that stretch, while Real is in the middle of a four game road trip. Real is 11 points out of the last playoff spot with eight games still remaining; they need every point they can take if they are going to reach the MLS Cup Playoffs for the first time.
No real big injuries or suspensions to talk about in this one too; only key player missing for either team is Jamie Moreno, who will be missing time with his national team as they have a friendly.
In the last meeting out west, DC gave RSL it’s first win of the season in the 2-1 loss. Robbie Findley scored the two RSL goals in the win that shocked most of the league. I doubt this will be the case this time as United is one of the better home sides in the league and RSL has only won a single game on the road this season (against LA). RSL has never won at RFK Stadium either in the short history between the two clubs but has found a way to get a draw there.
RSL is a pesky team right now as they seem to believe they are still in this with the way they are playing. I don’t see how they win this one though with how United has been playing as of late. But then again all good things must come to an end right? Right…but not tonight. I like DC to win this one but not without RSL putting up a fight in the process. Emilio should be able to find a way to add to his already dominate scoring spree.
WVH Prediction: DC 3, RSL 1
