MLS Thursday Night Preview

Big time game tonight in the MLS with what could be a preview in some minds of the MLS Cup this fall. I know this is one game that I have had circled on my calendar for a couple weeks now.

DC United – at – Chivas USA

Chivas brings to the table the best home record to date this season with only two draws and only a couple goals against. DC has become one of the better road sides in recent weeks and are winners of the last six games. So what gives in this one? A hot home side or a streaking road side? Really in all honesty, this one is too hot to handle and guess right now.

I love how Chivas has come together in recent weeks but I am a little concerned over the lack of play in the last month or so. Only a few games on the schedule but all have been made accounted for as far as a Goat’s fan point of view. Chivas is probably really the top club in my mind in regards to winning the Supporter’s Shield trophy this season because of the amount of home games that they have left this season.

But United are right up there with the Goats. DC just overtook New England for the top spot in the east and in the overall league table. This is the first of two games for United this week and both are against top opponents.

As mentioned before this games is going to be tough to guess. Even without a healthy Luciano Emilio I think the Black-and-Red have a good enough offense to carry them against a very solid Chivas defense that doesn’t give up much at home. I am really eager to see the matchup of Maykel Galindo and guys like Bobby Boswell in the back for DC. If Chivas lets Galindo run around and do his thing that he has done so well this season than it could be a very long night for DC. I think United has a good enough defense to counter Galindo enough or at least hold him up some.

In the end this one is very tight and it will be a great midfield battle. At this point it is very easy to choice Chivas based on their home record but I am actually going with a draw in this case. It really only makes sense that these clubs would draw in what should be a preview of the MLS Cup right now.

WVH Prediction: DC 1, Chivas 1

With the 2-2 draw, it's still all-square for the chase of Supporters' Shield 2007…

DC scored four nice goals last night.
Problem was, two were in their own net.
They looked tired last night; that might not bode well for the Revs match.
