Blimey, what happened to New England last night? I almost feel that it is a curse to place a club at the top of any power rankings anymore because once they are on top they almost always lose the next game. That wasn’t the case for a while with Houston but after time they lost two straight to the worst two clubs in the league. Now New England has gone and done the same as I had them atop the table with FC Dallas.

Oh, Lord, Hoops beware this weekend now. I guess DC or Houston could sneak back into the top spot before its all said an done with the way the rankings go these days. Time will tell won’t it?

But seriously, New England played like crap last night and Colorado deserved the three points. It was nice to finally see them score goals and win at home. Most of us thought the Dick’s Sporting Goods Park would be a rough place to play at the start of the season but it has taken most of the season for the Rapids to finally make it their home field I think. Also big kudos for Jovan Kirovski scoring two goals. Nice to see him back in the thick of the attack for Colorado. No time to sit and cry for New England, another roadie on Sunday will be tough.

As for this weekend’s games, plenty of action. Six games over the weekend. Colorado is the only club not in action on Saturday or Sunday, but with a big win over New England you almost have to say they deserve it.

Chivas USA at Toronto FC: Big game for both clubs here, Chivas needs road wins and Toronto needs three points. The biggest question on the minds of the Reds fans are if Danny Dichio, Jeff Cunningham, and Marvell Wynne are going to play. I think getting those three back in the lineup will do a big of wonder for the Reds but if not it will be a tough game.

Chivas is coming off their seemingly long summer break so they should be fresh but I wouldn’t be shocked if we see some rust. Toronto is winless in the last six as well coming into this game, something you know will end soon.

Chivas isn’t the best road club on the season, only two wins. Chivas got the season started with beating Toronto in LA but I don’t know if it will be that easy this time around in Toronto. Even with the amount of injuries and missed players that the Reds are going through, they do play very well at home.

First off for Toronto is getting rid of this scoreless drought that they are on. Once they score I think they will be fine and get some points out of this match. Chivas could be a good team for them to at least get a goal. Chivas has given up 17 goals on the road this season unlike their amazing stat of only two at home. Winning in a place like Toronto will do wonders for the post season chances of the Goats.

Both teams need three points but I honestly don’t see that happening tomorrow. They both score but they will only walk with a point. Its okay for both but not great.

WVH Prediction: Chivas USA 1, Toronto FC 1

DC United at Columbus Crew: Another very important game in the east as the road-weary United travel to Columbus.

Columbus picked up a narrow win back in April over the United at Crew Stadium. And something about that scoreline just makes me believe it will happen again. Columbus knows it needs three full points right now after that heart-breaking loss last weekend in Dallas. Chicago and Colorado are inching up in the playoff picture and you better believe Columbus is going to hold on to that final playoff spot for dear life.

DC also needs the three points in this one. With New England losing last night a win will easily help them move closer to the top of the east and possibly, more importantly, move closer to that Supporter’s Shield trophy for the season’s best club. With a couple games at hand against New England and Dallas, DC is in prime position to make a move for the trophy.

However, DC is coming off an embarrassing loss in LA over the midweek in SuperLiga. A game that they never really looked in. Aside from dumping New England on the road a couple weeks ago, DC hasn’t had a great road win this season, they even gave up RSL’s first win of the year on the road. The amount of games lately, doubled with being on the road makes me worried about the United’s chances tomorrow.
I like the Crew in this one to sneak away with another three points. I could be wrong and I know DC fans will hope I am.

WVH Prediction: Columbus 1, DC 0

LA Galaxy at New York Red Bulls: The David Beckham show goes to the Big Apple. You excited?

I must say it was a good showing from the Galaxy on Wednesday against DC in SuperLiga. Becks gets his first start and first goal (and assist too). Nice, typical Beckham free kick. Too bad I don’t see that happening tomorrow in New York. The Red Bulls are coming off a nice win over Toronto and look to continue pushing towards a better playoff spot with a win over the Galaxy.

Sad to say but the SuperLiga trophy may be the only trophy that the Galaxy will be able to get this season. The playoffs are still miles away for LA and unless the win in SuperLiga sparks something then don’t expect anything special. Sure the Gals have plenty of games on hand right now but they haven’t made the most of it.

Tomorrow we will be treated with a rear packed crowd in the Meadowlands for a Red Bulls’ game. Big question will be how much Beckham plays. He got in some solid minutes in SuperLiga but with this game being in FieldTurf, it makes you wonder exactly how much he will give it a go. I think he will start but I doubt he will play the entire game just yet. The turf raised a lot of concerns for Beckham and I know he does not like the turf. I mean, he has openly complained about the Turf in some stadiums since his arrival.

New York should be able to get some goals in this one. I think it may be close though.

WVH Prediction: New York 2, LA 1

Chicago Fire at Real Salt Lake: You know what is weird? Seven of the 12 points for RSL have come against eastern conference clubs. What is even more weird is I think that number will increase on Saturday.

Don’t get me wrong I love the changes that the Fire have made in recent weeks but something tells me to not overlook RSL anymore. I am not even saying they will win more games this season but something inside me thinks that they will at least play decent the rest of the way out this season and get some points. They may end up with 20 points on the season, not great but not the worst the league has ever seen.

These clubs drew back in May in Chicago and now the game moves to Ricce-Eccles Stadium. RSL is coming off a good win over Houston, while Chicago is hoping to pick up points after a recent draw with Columbus.

I think honestly a draw is in order for both clubs again today. However they will score goals this time around. I am still worried about the Fire’s defense in this final third of the season. I don’t think they will be able to hold up enough for them to get into the playoffs. You may see why tomorrow night.

WVH Prediction: RSL 2, Chicago 2

FC Dallas at Houston Dynamo: Let me just say, Joesph Ngwenya should never take a PK ever again in his life after what he did in the SuperLiga semi-final on Tuesday. One of the worst PK’s I’ve ever seen in my life. I’ve seen some bad ones that go way over or way wide but never have I seen one go around 10 MPH at the keeper who dove one way and was able to change his dive, lay down and take a nap, read a book, sign some fan mail and then make the save.

I really wonder what state of mind the Dynamo are in right now. One would think they would be bouncing back after their loss to RSL a couple weeks ago with a nice win in Colorado. No, that wasn’t the case, and either was bouncing back to win in SuperLiga. Maybe it is a mid-season slump or breakdown or maybe there is just something going wrong. It should all change for the Dynamo with Dallas coming into town though. A rival game can do wonders for a club and it can also completely kill a club too.

I don’t think it will do the ladder of the two but Houston has always played well against Dallas. Houston has one win and a draw over the Hoops this season in their El Capitan series. Dallas has been able in the past couple weeks to overcome the Dynamo in the western and league standings. But, Houston is a place that they have never seen success in.

Sadly, enough I don’t see that changing this weekend. Houston will bounce back from their previous losses and will at least get a point in this one. Houston will definitely want to rebound after the SuperLiga game. I think for Dallas to be successful, they have to come out early and pour on the attack.

In the end I just see the Dynamo walking out and regaining the league top of the standings. (I fully welcome any email from Hoops fans after this game if Dallas does win though…believe me I will gladly take a win if it comes)

WVH Prediction: Houston 2, Dallas 1

New England Revolution at Kansas City Wizards: Hey, KC has a game this weekend. Think anyone in KC will notice? Nope. Didn’t think so. Too bad really because I think the Wizards will make the eastern race a lot more interesting with a win.

Yup, I am going to keep this one short and sweet. I think the Wizards will bounce back after a recent loss to the Revs to beat the Revs. You can expect goals in this one and I would be willing to bet that Eddie Johnson gets at least one of them. I just wonder if the long layoff for the Wizards will do any damage.

WVH Prediction: KC 2, New England 1
