Columbus Crew midfielder and US U20 standout Danny Szetela has declared that he wants to remain in Columbus for the remaining part of the season and not transfer to AS Roma before the summer transfer window closes at the end of the month.
Szetela and his agent have made it very clear and consistent that he wants to remain apart of the Crew and help them as much as possible along the way.
The Crew midfielder has also received enquiries from the likes of Celtic, long ago suitors Everton, Hertha Berlin and Rangers.
As far as a good move or bad move about this I think it can go either way really. I think for the Crew this only can help their current playoff push to have a determined Szetela, who will be looking to cash in as much as possible before he does transfer overseas. Bad in a way that some people may want to already see him in a Roma uniform for this season or because he hasn’t really been that much of an impact for the Crew this season.
Szetela is expected to transfer to Roma in January when the winter transfer window reopens. In all reality, I think it is a wise move for him to stay put now and increase the potential deal with Roma by playing well for the remaining part of the season in Columbus.
