This week has been jam packed with soccer action around the States and around this side of the globe. The US may be done in Copa America so that will do a lot for some clubs that are missing some key elements to their lineups but they will have to wait another game I am sure to get those guys back in uniform, or at least we will see about it.

Six games on tap for the weekend. One game not in the league schedule tonight as the US U20 National squad has their game with Brazil shown on the sports leader ESPN.

Saturday’s Games:

Real Salt Lake at Columbus Crew: The streaking Crew return home after a boring 0-0 draw on the 4th with the Rapids and Real hopes to erase the loss of the expansion Toronto club from their memory.

Not a lot of promise in this game for Real in my mind. I think the Crew have been playing very well as of late and they really have too many weapons compared to Real. Which, in all reality isn’t saying a whole lot. I think the Crew has the midfield to control this game from start to finish, more so because it is a home game and because it isn’t being played on horrible field turf like at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City.

The main factor in this game is if Real can stop one of the best play makers the league has ever seen in Schelotto. I don’t see it happening tomorrow as Schelotto will add to his assist mark on the season and may put in a goal of his own. With the win the Crew could find themselves sitting in third place by the end of the weekend or at least in forth.

WVH Prediction: Columbus 2, Real Salt Lake 0

Chivas USA at New England Revolution: We saw this match last weekend in LA and now we get the rematch in New England. I don’t think last week’s game in LA will be anything like tomorrow’s though as Chivas has been a horrible road side this season.

I am really wondering if we will see the Copa America players back in uniform for both clubs tomorrow as that would vastly do a lot to the intrigue for this game in my eyes. I don’t want to sound like Eric Wynalda but I honestly miss watching Taylor Twellmen out there for New England. Something just seems off with the Revs when there is no Twellman.

Whew…okay, enough of my rant about Twellman. I think this game will come down to who can score and I don’t see Chivas being able to score on the road like they do at the Home Depot Center. I like the Revs in this one but in a close one.

WVH Prediction: New England 2, Chivas 1

Toronto FC at Chicago Fire: Chicago has been in a world of hurt for a while but that all could change with Blanco in the lineup. I don’t know whether or not he will debut in this one or not. My feelings are that he will, which could lead to some better fortunes for the Fire.

However, the Reds are coming off of their first ever road win from last Saturday in Salt Lake City. Toronto is playing much better on the road these days and the Fire haven’t exactly made Toyota Park an intimidating place to play at.

In the end, even if Blanco does start and debut I think Toronto will come out on top as they have the better amount of talent from front to back. Jeff Cunningham is only four goals from his 100th career goal and you have a feeling he will itch ever so closer to it tomorrow. Also I think this game will be much like the one in Toronto that gave the Reds their first ever club victory. Same score sounds about right too.

WVH Prediction: Toronto FC 3, Chicago Fire 1

Kansas City Wizards at LA Galaxy: Oddly enough I think the Galaxy are slowly changing their fortunes. Even if they scored two poorly called PKs over the Fire on the 4th. But I don’t think it will matter against Wizards either.

KC has been rather pathetic and boring as of late and even if Eddie Johnson returns to the lineup I don’t know if it will make a bit of difference, even against a rather poor LA defense.

This game comes down to how Landon Donovan controls the field and how the rest of the Galaxy follows. If Landon plays like Landon then the Galaxy will come out on top but if the Wizards hold their own in the back like they have been this season then we will see a draw. I think in the end of weekend the Wizards will be sitting down in the eastern standings and the Galaxy will be closer to the playoff picture (woah…that’s not weird to type at this point) and closer to Colorado in the standings.

WVH Prediction: LA 2, KC 1

Sunday’s games:

New York Red Bulls at Colorado Rapids: New York comes to town right before the All-Star break as the Rapids have changed their ways in the back as of late and will get a real big test with New York.

Now Colorado must find a way to redo it’s offense, which has been pathetic as of late. New York needs to find offense of their own. After last night’s beating in Houston it makes you wonder just how up the Red Bulls will be for this game.

As usual New York has to find a way to get Angel involved early in the game. In games that Angel scores early the Red Bulls typically come out on top. However when he doesn’t get involved the results are typically different. Colorado is the same, they need to get their offense…more importantly Roberto Brown involved.

I see this game shaping up as another draw between these two clubs. Last time when they got together Colorado snuck in a goal on the road and took home three points. I don’t see that type of thing happening unless New York comes out as flat as they were last night against Houston.

New York continues down the standings and Colorado stays pretty much where they have been for the last few weeks.

WVH Prediction: Colorado 1, New York 1

DC United at Houston Dynamo: Two of the hottest clubs in the league face off in Texas on Sunday night. We saw this match up not too long ago in the Nation’s Capital as DC came out on top.

With the recent play of the Dynamo at home you have to think it will continue but with the United coming into town I think they will have a little harder of a time getting four goals on the United defense.

I think it comes down to how well the Black-and-Red get up for this important game. DC has been awful this season on the road in my mind and they haven’t done much to change my mind about that. Houston has also been utterly dominate at home as of late winning their last four home games by a combined score of 12-2.

I think the men in orange will come out on top in this one as they did last night. Maybe not another 4-0 beating but it will be a win I believe. Houston itches closer to Dallas in the standings as DC hope to hold on to the top of the eastern standings. A draw would suit the United well but it isn’t likely to come.

WVH Prediction: Houston 2, DC 1
