Looks like a deal that I missed over the weekend. But better late than never to discuss it. The LA Galaxy have dealt yet another young player but this time they receive a young player. The Galaxy send struggling forward Nate Jaqua to the Houston Dynamo in exchange for defender Kelly Gray and a second round draft pick in next year’s draft.
A move that doesn’t surprise many in the west coast as Jaqua proved to be only to be slightly worthless in his time in a Galaxy uniform. Only one goal in as many as 10 games this season.
The deal is actually a smart one for the Galaxy. Gray should be able to help a struggling defense right away in time for David Beckham’s arrival in a few days. Dumping Jaqua was only going to happen for a matter of time with the arrival of Carlos Pavon and recently acquired Edson Buddle.
Houston lands a striker in need of a change of scenery in my eyes. I think this will work out far better for Jaqua as wearing a Galaxy uniform proved to be too much for the young striker. I think this will be a good change for him as he will be paired up with a great striker in Brian Ching and will have plenty of good players around him to make him better.
Overall a fairly solid deal for both clubs. I hated to see Houston trade away defense but landing a striker is something the Dynamo will need for the stretch run this summer.
