Saturday Thoughts

Just sat through the Toronto – Colorado game. Kinda a dull game, but with the Rapids involved I wasn’t expecting anything less.

~~ I have to say that the Altitude broadcast is about as boring as the Rapids’ play. What gets me about the two guys in the booth (or the studio rather in this case) are good, don’t get me wrong they are good, but very dry and a bit boring at times to listen to. For another thing, why on earth were they in the studio for this game calling it? Shouldn’t you be at the stadium watching the game to call it? To me that is a total waste on their part because they couldn’t even call a solid game because of the fact that they weren’t in the stadium. Just my two cents on that.

~~ Jeff Cunninham is a very dangerous player and even though he didn’t score today he was at least going for it and trying. I think the trade is starting to work for him just as much as it is for TFC. He looks like a happier guy in Toronto.

~~ So the Rapids need to learn how to start games when they are on the road. Absolute sloppy play caused the goals.

~~ Bouna may be the best, if not, the luckiest keeper in the league right now. So many great reaction saves. His defense sure leaves him high and dry too many times. The Rapids were very lucky that it was 4-0 at the half but thanks to Bouna it was only a one game game. Bouna time baby…gotta thank your lucky stars if your a Rapids fan right now.
~~ Herculez Gomez is showing us that he is the man up top to lead the Rapids. I am happy for that because I think he is showing LA what a mistake it was to get rid of him.

~~ Nice crowd as usual in Toronto. Boy they are slow getting back for the second half though.

~~ Phantom red card to Kevin Goldthwaite in the late stages. The matchtracker says it was due to “Abusive Language”, I guess he talked about someone’s momma in a bad manner. If it is really bad then I am sure MLS will have to step in and suspend him for a game or two. For the time being we are left to speculate what was said. Bad part was the ref look very unsure of himself after the card. There was no interaction between Goldthwaite and any Rapid player so it makes the card even more questionable.

~~ Speaking of the ref, I have to say it was a bit of a poorly reffed game, just as many of the games have been this season. I believe it was the guy’s third game and it showed really. The league has to get it’s best refs out on the pitch and they didn’t do so today. Did the league lose some refs to the Gold Cup call ups or something too?

~~ So New England and RSL was a boring game…the Revs dominated play and somehow RSL walks away with a point. Still no wins for that club but oddly enough still only three losses for them as well. Hey Richtie Kotschau, welcome back to the league with a red card. Awesome.

~~ Yeah I will admit, I didn’t watch a lot of the Revs-RSL game…boring play, kind of boring announcing, even the crowd looked bored.

~~ Good action in the New York and KC game. Angel just made this game worst watching.

~~ Oh look Clint Mathis is being Clint Mathis another red card. Really, can anyone take him seriously on his rebirth as a legit player? I sure as hell can’t with actions like this.

~~ Wow, EJ is literally on fire. And so are the Wizards. They are definitely proving me wrong and oddly enough I don’t mind.

~~ So EJ with another, yes, another hat trick. He looks like a whole another player with Carlos Marinelli on the field. Then again so do the Wizards. I can’t say I will root for the Wizards but you can’t help but enjoy their play right now. Dominating the “league’s best” in New York. (okay I will admit, this game would be a bit different in New York though)

~~ It was good to see that Wizard fans actually cared for once to show. 13k isn’t too shabby but it isn’t great for this marquee of a game. I will keep my words about this though for another day. These two clubs have the worst marketing in the league.

~~ So KC is atop the east now. Wow. I am stunned. Here is to hoping Toronto continues their push towards the playoffs. I honestly don’t believe KC could be Toronto right now. Honestly.

More to come from the rest of today’s action….feel free to give me your thoughts on today’s games as well…

Great Blog man, I've been lurking here for a while.
Gotta disagree with you on the Rapids broadcast team. What a joke they are–not just boring, but misinformed about the Rapids opponents and their opponents' community. Being on hand, might have helped, but I doubt it. First, the field is pronounced Bee-Mo (do your homework guys, it’s not a secret); second, Bank of Montreal is not just a bank "up there" in Quebec, it is a national bank; third, Andy Welsh is English, not Scottish; forth, Dichio is pronounced Dick-ee-oh, not Ditch-ee-oh; fifth, there’s no need to keep pointing out that Toronto is in Canada, we know where it is; sixth, the TFC crowd IS intelligent (when Cunningham gets dumped at the top of the 18 yard box in 40th or so minute and there’s no call, regardless of whether it is or is not a foul, they jeer because the whole point of having a home field advantage is to create a hostile atmosphere for the other team and to influence the ref -– if there were more hostile environments in MLS it would be a more respectable league). Get a clue guys.
You're right on about the refs though, especially in an environment like that created by the TFC crowds. In five games at BMO they've proven time and time again they're not up to the challenge of handling the pressure.
