Gold Cup Rosters Released

I know, I am a bit slow getting this out today but so is life. Very interesting release of players for the Gold Cup roster today by Bob Bradley. Just on first look I love the additions of veteran players like Steve Ralston and Franky Hejduk.

Here is the breakdown:

  • Goalkeepers (3): Tim Howard, Kasey Keller, Brad Guzan
  • Defenders (8): Oguchi Onyewu, Carlos Bocanegra, Frankie Hejduk, Jonathan Bornstein, Jay DeMerit, Frank Simek, Michael Parkhurst, Jonathan Spector
  • Midfielders (8): Clint Dempsey, DaMarcus Beasley, Michael Bradley, Ricardo Clark, Benni Feilhaber, Pablo Mastroeni, Steve Ralston, Justin Mapp
  • Forwards (4): Landon Donovan, Brian Ching, Eddie Johnson, Taylor Twellman

Yes, LandyCakes is going to be in uniform for the Gold Cup. There had been talk that he would sit it out since Becks is coming over but as for now he will be in with the club. Which is what he needs to do. The US needs Landon to play well and overcome last year’s World Cup as best as he can.

I love the youth movement. Some will hate it but I am all for what Bradley is doing. You have to get some of these guys experience somewhere and this is a great place to start. Good to see Twellman making the roster as well. Hopefully guys like Ching and Johnson can step their game up in the MLS in time for the Gold Cup.

I also like the call up of Brad Guzan in net with Kasey and Timmy. I have felt for a while that Guzan is a future keeper for the country behind guys like Howard.

Overall it is a very strong, young roster. I know I would have loved to have seen Kenny Cooper or Bobby Boswell make the roster but their time will come. I am sure they will be alternates for the roster if things come down to it. Injuries did keep some other veteran players like Jimmy Conrad and Chris Albright off of the roster, to be expected I guess.

What is your take on the roster? Happy? Pleased? Pissed? Let me know…

I've actually added you to my blogroll already, not to be presumptuous, but because I like your work.<br />
