As mentioned earlier, there was rumors of some trades in RSL land, one of which we now know as true.
Goff at the WP is reporting now that it is confirmed that Alecko Eskandarian has been traded to RSL from Toronto FC.
Esky told Goff this over the phone:
“It’s a huge shock. Totally out of the blue. They called me into the coaches’ office this morning and told me. I am definitely disappointed. I felt good here and was really settling in. It hurts. I feel like I was deceived. I am sure they will put a spin on it and say that I wanted to leave, but that’s not the case.”
Tough break for Esky too. He is reunited with Freddy Adu as well, so maybe some old United magic is left in the tank for the two? One can only hope if you are a fan of RSL or a fan of Esky.
More on this to come. No detail on the full disclosure of the trade. I am assuming that he has been traded for allocation and picks of some sort, probably not for another player.
I kind of assume it was always in Toronto’s mind to trade Esky. He was mostly in talks with New York at the beginning of the year. I see them now going off and trying to make a bid at landing Canadian International Tomasz Radzinski.
Update: Looks as though I was wrong about what Esky was traded for…the league’s site now reports that Cunningham has been dealt in exchange for Esky. So Esky to RSL and Jeff Cunningham to Toronto. Wow…what a day.
