Red Leafs – Wizards Thoughs

I love the online package the MLS provides for their games. $20 is easily the best deal in sports to watch out of market games for a season. I am glad they put this game with Toronto and Kansas City online tonight. For one there is no solid TV tonight anyways and I have been wanting to see more of each club.

Early impressions:

Ugly night in KC…even uglier crowd because of the rain. Totally will kill the nice streak of games the league is having with 10,000+ in attendance, though I believe the other ugly game in NY with NY and Dallas was viewed by 8,000…I think KC would be lucky to have 6,000 there tonight…

Nice goal by Johnson, but don’t even give him all the credit, Toronto practically handed KC that goal. Too many people out of position and the nasty weather is a factor. Nice touch though with the t-shirt celebration in honor of VT.
Marinelli is a name we will be taking about for some time I feel…

I have a feeling Greg Sutton won’t last as the Red Leafs keeper for this season.

TFC is getting some decent possession here early on…Esky needs to get more active I think up top, maybe find Buddle or Edu.

The broadcasters aren’t too shabby. The play-by-play guy (who’s name is escaping me as I write) isn’t bad, he is very calm, delivers well, and doesn’t get too annoying. The color guy could use a little more energy in his tone. The sideline guy is a waste…then again all sideline people in soccer are a waste.
Esky with the yellow card now…don’t really know about that challenge. Looks like he lightly clipped him.

Broadcasters talk about the upcoming Nick Garcia look-alike contest. Wow, is it that bad out in KC that they have look-alike contests with Nick Garcia?

Esky and Buddle just aren’t clicking together. I feel Esky needs to be in an attacking midfielder role. But midfielder Andy Welsh looks pretty good. Nice play from him thus far…

Red Leafs did not want this half to end. They really started to settle in here. They should be able to build on that brief momentum for the start of the second half.

1-0 at the half…Johnson scores for KC off a header…a couple cards…choppy play here and there but not bad, not bad.

More to come…second half:

KC gets an ugly goal after TFC gets some decent play. So my prediction now stands…2-0….

KC crowd is sounding pretty nice on the TV. Lots of decent chants. Just think if they had their own place that was much more fitting to their crowds. A nice 18,000 seat stadium would suit this team perfectly I think.

Not a bad debut for Edu…saw some decent runs but nothing too noteworthy.

Now it’s 3-0…horrible defense by Toronto. Number four for Toronto just got beat badly on that play. Nice goal though, gotta give KC credit they are pouring it on.

Subs are coming on now…this one is in the books really. Three points for KC.

I am still not solid on this Wizard’s squad. They beat TFC, who isn’t by any means a good team in the MLS right now. At times I felt TFC really should have scored and made the most of their chances but KC was the better team tonight. Not a bad game really, decent chances and moments for both squads. Again, the Red Leafs aren’t quite there just yet. They still have no offense and the defense needs more time to gel. But solid play from Welsh in the midfield. KC did what they had to do tonight to get the three points. Not a lot to it really, they got more shots and chances but they really were lucky that this TFC squad isn’t as good as they could be yet. I will be more curious about their meeting this weekend now.
