Yes, Mulrooney was dealt today by Toronto, who keeps making deals left and right. Some Dallas fans were hopeful (including myself) to see Rich return to the Big D, however, he will go elsewhere in Texas to Houston.
Houston will deal 25-year old defender (one that was on my list earlier) Kevin Goldthwaite and Houston’s first round pick in 2008 in exchange for the disgruntled defensive midfielder Mulrooney.
It was no secret that Mulrooney was upset about being dealt to Toronto from Dallas. He didn’t want the change and had been a bit pissy about playing in Toronto the entire time he was there. Perfect time for Toronto and coach Mo Johnston to pull the trigger and get some defensive help like we all have said they needed to get. Mullrooney gets to reunite with former Earthquakes coach Dominic Kinnear in Houston.
Interesting move for Houston really. Kind of makes me believe they are planning on a departure of someone this summer, possibly Richardo Clark. Until then I am a bit puzzled how Mulrooney will align himself in the Houston midfield. He may be coming off the bench for his first few matches until things get sorted out I would think. Right now the midfield is pretty clogged with talent for Houston.
Is Toronto done dealing for now? Possibly, but highly unlikely. I still feel there is a move or two left up their sleeves here.
Expect the league to announce this deal and the Marvell Wynne deal later this week. I believe they wanted the Juan Pablo Angel signing to get the press that it deserved before they threw these deals out there for the public. Then again, the league is always slow about announcing these sort of things. Sad that blogs out here have the deals before they do.
