As mentioned before, the Wizards have a new play-maker in the midfield, Argentinean midfielder Carlos Marinelli. The 25 year old will be introduced tomorrow by the club.
For those who do not know much about Marinelli he started off his career with Boca Juniors where he played until 1999 when Middlesbrough F.C. signed him for £1.5 million. However, he failed to live up to hype and left in 2003 and signed for Torino F.C. During the 2004/2005 season he joined Portuguese side SC Braga on a transfer. He was regarded one of the most valious players of Portuguese League, due to his excellent tactical skills.
This deal for the Wizards will either make their season or break it. Some have said Marinelli is like a Valderomma with a little more pizazz. He won’t be a designated player but will have a decent contract. If this kid pans out then it could help KC out of the cellar that they have put themselves into over the past couple seasons. He won’t have to lead this team but he will have to dictate the pace of the game in the middle of the pitch for the Wizards. If he does that then we could see a rebirth of Eddie Johnson.
This is the sort of deal that the MLS needs to keep going after. Something I will probably talk about in length at another time.
