Red Bull New York is still looking for a striker. Maybe they have found one with Marcelo Salas who has been known for his stints with Italian clubs Juventus and Lazio as well as Argentine giant River Plate.
Salas has been a bit of a injury plagued player as of late. His recent stint in Chile went bad as he was released by Universidad de Chile.
According to the report the Red Bulls have offered Salas a one-year contract, but it will not be a DP spot. Smart move because if you are the Red Bulls it makes no sense to fool around with wasting a DP spot with a guy that could prove to be a total waste. He used to be the guy that had a deadly strike on the ball but for the most part of the past year or two he hasn’t done anything at all worth talking about.
My feelings on this are the Red Bulls are still looking for their second DP spot to sign. They tried to get Aston Villa forward Juan Pablo Angel, but it appears that deal fell through somehow. They know they need offense and will stop at about nothing to sign someone who can produce and has been able to produce in the past five months. Their last two moves of getting any offense haven’t produced in a couple years combined. I like to think Bruce can do a lot with a MLS team but at this point (and with the Chicago-Blanco deal) I am starting to think that the Red Bulls may be dipping into the lower barrels of the league with the Fire and the Wizards. Yeah, that bad.
This story will undoubtedly continue as this week goes on…
