Hear that San Jose sold out 47,000 tickets for a game that doesn’t include any Americans? Yeah, 47,000 tickets for a Mexico vs. Ecuador game at McAfee Colesium in Oakland.
I have to say this is great news for the owners of the possible expansion/rebirth franchise of the San Jose Earthquakes. Getting 47,000 tickets sold for a non-MLS double header and a non-US game is great as well. It still shows the market in San Jose can carry soccer and will carry it in the future.
Also, an interesting note, that MLS Commish Don Garber will be at this game and NOT at the US-Guatemala game in Dallas. Very interesting note there if you are an expansion hopeful there in the Bay area.
Deals are still in place for a stadium, which means I wouldn’t be surprised at all if we get an announcement by the end of the season about a rebirth of the Quakes.
