Another midfielder traded away to expansion side Toronto from Dallas. The latest, all-star defensive midfielder Richard Mulrooney was traded by the Hoops to Toronto for allocation and next year’s first round draft choice.
I have to say this deal surprises me a bit since Mulrooney was back and healthy again after knee injuries. Though its a great deal for Toronto, who was in need of some defense themselves and a leader got both in this deal.
For Dallas, my feelings is they may seriously be looking to get Sharlie Joseph from New England since they are getting some extra allocation money. You have to think they will be looking to make some sort of deal here to get some defensive help. You can’t imagine they won’t be at this point since they are trading away a proven defensive midfielder.
Until something like that happens, I can’t say I like this deal for Dallas. Toronto can only hope that there isn’t some sort of injury issue still attached to Mulrooney. Though I can’t say there is at this point.
Lastly, I think its sad that MLSnet doesn’t even have this as a headline on their main page. An all-star getting traded should be headline news for a pro-sports league if you ask me. Pathetic really…I think that is the most disheartening part of this whole trade for me.
