The Korea Times reported today that Suwon Bluewigs, along with EPL side Chelsea and Mexican side Tigres, will compete against the LA Galaxy in a little tournament during the summer. What will be a pre-season affair for the Asian and English sides will be a mid-summer game for the North American clubs.
The event will take place in mid-July and yes, Mr. David Beckham himself will be apart of the festivities.
WVH’s Take: You know these mid-summer friendlies are good and fine but you have to start to think that the more the Galaxy try to milk the whole Beckham thing, the more it could potentially hurt their side in the long run late in the season. Sure, it will be a home tournament for the Galaxy but they will be on the road for a good part of the rest of the MLS season after the four team gig, and we all know just how great the Galaxy are outside of the Tool Box. Two years ago when they won the MLS Cup they were horrible 1-11-3 (they improved slightly last season going 4-9-1). I didn’t count Chivas games in those records since that is at home technically. It makes you wonder just how this Galaxy team will fair with all of these extra games thrown in the mix.
