No joke. LA Galaxy head coach Frank Yallop expects David Beckham to be a “quarterback” style of a midfielder when he joins the Galaxy later this summer.
We all know the type of player Beckham is, and can be, but I am honestly worried about the circus that is coming the Galaxy’s way. You have to think that this will be the most pressure packed season for any MLS team in the history of the young league.
Lots of pressure will be placed on Becks to produce whether the Galaxy are doing great when he arrives or if they are doing poorly. But honestly, I see the most pressure on the Canadian head coach, Yallop. Yallop has to find a way in this circus to keep the team focused with and without Beckham on the team. Its not just the fame that Beckham brings to the Southern California side, its the money he is earning from them. Yallop also has to find a way to bring the team together and not have teammates focus on the dollar value of Beckham’s legendary contract.
I believe in Yallop, I have even gone as far as saying I thought he would have been a good fit for the US National team position. He definitely has his work cut out for him as we all know by now. So far all the right things have been said by Yallop.
