According to 3rdDegree, newly acquired midfielder for the Hoops has reportedly decided to undergo knee surgery. Hoops officials have indicated a decision to have the precedure has not yet been made and that the team and Serioux will make the decision together.
Also, there is no indication on how serious the injury is to the knee, nor is there a timetable for a return. However, some reports are saying the Canadian will miss some serious amount of time this coming season, possibly six months or more.
Serioux, who won a MLS title last season with the Houston Dynamo was brought to Dallas via trade with expansion side Toronto after the expansion draft. Dallas traded Ronnie O’Brien to Toronto for Serioux and some draft picks. Serioux was expected to start in the midfield for the Hoops as a central defender. Now it looks like the Hoops will have to go to Alex Yi or Clearance Goodson instead of making a replacement signing.
This comes as a major blow to the Hoops, who were hoping Serioux would fill a major whole in the defensive midfield. Due to the salary cap, the Hoops will probably not be able to find someone else, hence the move to use a younger player like Yi or Goodson. I expect Dallas to go with both youngsters, though, you’d hope there could be some sort of deal in the works to improve the situation.
More on this as I find out.
